ART THESIS
Professor Chalood Nimsamer was one of the eighth class students of
Silpakorn University’s
Faculty of
Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, but interestingly, in 1954 he
became the first student
to receive
a Bachelor’s degree from Silpakorn University. At that time, Professor
Silpa Bhirasri was
the dean
and was in the meantime teaching several courses. It is well recognized
that the five-year
B.A.
program during that time was so tough that most of the students ended
their study at the third year
and
obtained only a diploma. Only a small number of students were able to
strive for the fourth and
fifth years
to gain a B.F.A. degree. During the last year of undergraduate program,
students were not
required to
write a thesis, but instead were evaluated and judged from their
performance on a
comprehensive exam and coursework. As a prominent student, Professor
Chalood Nimsamer at that time
was often
assigned by Professor Silpa Bhirasri to carry out painting work even
though he was majoring
in
sculpture. Therefore, it came as no surprise that his art works include
both painting and sculpture.
