........The murals at the Khrung
Thonburi Audience Hall, in the Ancient City, in Samutprakarn depict the life and works of
King Taksin the Great of the Thonburi dynasty. They were executed by artists in the Ninth
Reign of the Rattanakosin period who studied the art style of the pre-Rattanakosin period
and applied the techniques exactly as used by Thai artists of the late Ayudhaya period.
The palette consists of red ocre, black pigment from charcoal soot, and yellow earth
pigment. The murals are tempera painting mixed with glue and were executed according to
ancient practices. The work was completed within approximately one year. |
